My personal story with Heavy periods and cramps...


When I was a teenager, my hormones were out of control...

I usually had irregular periods, most of the time quite heavy, lasting 6-7 days... Cramps were part of the cycle too... It was not fun at all. I felt like the time with no periods was so short, and before I knew, they were back again...

Because of the irregularity, when I was 16, doctors put me on birth control tablets, which insured that the cycle would always come on time and stop on time... The tablets did not change the length or the intensity, either did not stop the cramps. They did only made my period regular for the first time. I stayed on them for 5 years, until I started my research about healthy diet, which I talk more about in the article - MIGRAINES.



Changing the diet was the turning point...


My search for cure for my mum lead me to a lot of information about food, healthy eating, additives, chemicals, reading labels and much, much more...

I stopped taking the birth controls, because I was not going to load myself with any hormones anymore...but I was still worried if my periods will come on time, and also stop when they supposed to - as that was the big problem for me when I was a teenager.

To my surprise, they did. I guess my hormones were already long stabilized, so my body just did it's job properly. For a while, the periods were normal, well what I knew normal at that time, but still cramps and heavy bleeding were present.


Only few months later when I became a 100 % vegetarian, I have noticed a big difference...

Cramps did completely disappeared and never came back since. Not just that. From the periods that usually lasted for 6-7 days (sometimes even longer) and were quite heavy, they now lasted for 3 days only, and were very mild in comparison to what I was used to...

I am not exactly sure when this change happened, how long I was eating a vegetarian diet, but I don't think it was long at all...

The best part of it all is, that 9 years later, my periods are still only 3 days long and very mild. I believe that if my diet would be even cleaner and better, (as you can have a good vegetarian and also a very bad vegetarian diet), If I would eat more raw, fresh and organic my body would be even cleaner, therefore my periods better. I live in a middle of Europe - Slovakia. Our winters are long and cold, so we do not have an access to fresh fruit and vegetables all year round...


Basically periods are body's way to clean and replace an old egg by bleeding it out... If your body is clean and not polluted with animal products, your egg will be much healthier, therefore your body won't need to use so much blood to clean everything out...
