Frequently Asked Questions

Activities & Community

Will there be activities every day?

Yes, we provide daily meetups and activities through the entire season.

Do we have to join every activity?

Not at all.

Everything we organize is completely optional. Join as much or as little as you'd like.

What will the itinerary be, and how will I be informed?

Before your arrival, you'll be invited to a private Messenger group where you can connect with other families, ask questions, arrange meetups and stay up to date throughout the season.

We'll regularly share updates about upcoming activities, adventures and community events. As many of our meetups are weather-dependent, our schedule is planned with flexibility in mind. When the forecast is stable, we'll usually publish the programme for the week ahead over the weekend. If the weather is more changeable, we'll plan one or two days in advance to make the most of the conditions.

What are the weekly activities & schedule?

Our Portugal hub is designed to feel flexible, relaxed, and family-led — giving space for both connection and freedom.

Most days we meet in the afternoon from around 2pm (occasionally earlier depending on weather or planned activities). This structure gives families full mornings for learning, work, rest, or personal exploration.

If families would like to connect earlier, they can easily use the group chat to arrange additional meetups before or after the main daily gathering.

Most of our official meetups and adventures take place outside of our condominium. However, many of our informal gatherings—such as mums' meetups, women's circles, movie nights, pool hangouts and seasonal celebrations—take place within the complex. Families not staying at the same location will still be able to join us for those activities.

Dedicated connection spaces:
Women’s circles, Mums meetups, Dads meetups, Social evenings & games nights

Daily activities (all optional & weather-based):
Every week is shaped by the weather, group's energy, and ages of the children present — making each experience unique.

Activities may include:

• Free play at our condominium

• Beach days & swimming spots

• Playdates in different locations
• Field trips & cultural outings
• Boat trips & kayaking
• Cliff walks & coastal hikes
• Water parks & adventure days
• Arts & crafts workshops (children & adults)
• Zip lining & adventure experiences
• Spontaneous meetups & relaxed afternoons

Wellness Hub - extra cost, option for monthly membership (daily optional classes):Yoga, Pilates, dance, fitness workouts, gym sessions, sauna and more. The wellness hub is located at our condominium.

This rhythm creates a balance of shared experiences and spacious family time — allowing each family to participate at their own pace while still feeling part of a connected community

Will There Always Be a Host at the Meetups?

Yes. Throughout the season, I personally host and attend the vast majority of our meetups and activities. Being present, helping families connect and creating a welcoming community is one of the most rewarding parts of the hub for me.

Because we're hosting an eight-month-long hub, we've chosen to build in a sustainable rhythm that allows me to give every family the best possible experience from the beginning of the season right through to the end.

For that reason, I'll take one - two flexible days off each week—one family day and one day to catch up on planning, communication and behind-the-scenes organisation. These aren't fixed days and are chosen based on the weather and the programme, usually when families are most likely to be enjoying independent adventures or relaxing together.

From 17–27 December, I'll also be taking a short Christmas break with my own family. This is traditionally one of the quietest periods of the season, making it the ideal time for a family break.

Even on my days off, the hub doesn't stop. I'll continue planning and sharing the daily meetup schedule, and families will still enjoy activities together. I'll also remain available if anyone needs assistance or has any questions during their stay.

One of the beautiful things about our hubs is that they quickly become much more than organised meetups. Friendships form naturally, families arrange adventures together, and the community continues to thrive—whether I'm leading a meetup that day or simply supporting from behind the scenes.

Joining the hub

How long to join for?

You can join us for as little as one week or stay for the entire season. Every family is welcome, but many discover that the longer they stay, the richer the experience becomes.

For the best experience, we recommend staying three weeks or longer. This gives your family time to settle in after travelling, find your rhythm, and truly become part of the community. Children naturally build stronger friendships, parents have time to unwind and connect, and everyone can enjoy a slower pace of life without feeling rushed.

A two-week stay is also a wonderful option, offering plenty of time to experience the hub and build meaningful connections.

One-week stays are perfect if you'd like to experience the hub for the first time or can only join for a shorter period. While the experience is still special, many families find that just as they're settling in and friendships are beginning to flourish, it's already time to head home.

Many families choose to stay for several months, and some spend the entire season with us. As the weeks go by, friendships deepen, children become more independent and confident, and the hub begins to feel less like a holiday and more like home.

Can we join partway through the season?

Yes. Families arrive and leave throughout the season, so you're welcome to join whenever suits your travel plans.

Is there a minimum stay?

Yes. The minimum stay is one week.

How do I join?

Simply choose your accommodation, complete the registration form at the bottom of each page and secure your place by sending your hub contribution. You'll then receive everything you need before you arrive.

Accommodation

Do we have to stay in the main condominium?

We highly recommend staying in our main condominium, Herdade dos Salgados, where most hub families choose to stay, or in accommodation beside us, if you are on a lower budget. This is where the community naturally comes to life—children play together before and after our official meetups, parents connect throughout the day, and many of the most memorable moments happen spontaneously. You can find everything you need to know in our Accommodation Guide section

Can you help us find accommodation?

Absolutely. We provide links for different websites, where you can find apartments, villas and campervan options to suit different budgets. Find out more in the Accommodation Guide section.

Can we stay in a campervan?

Yes. There are several nearby campervan areas, and we're happy to recommend the best options. Find out more in the Accommodation Guide section.

Children

What ages are the children?

Children of all ages join our hubs, from babies through to teenagers.

Every season is different, but there are always opportunities for children to build friendships.

Are there activities for teenagers?

Yes. Based on the age group currently with us, we plan dedicated meetups and experiences for teenagers alongside activities the whole family can enjoy together. This season we are focusing to build a strong teen group as well.

Is this suitable for toddlers?

Absolutely. Many families join with young children, and plenty of our meetups are suitable for all ages. We also have a dedicated sub-chat for families with little ones  as often times they are on a different time schedule that families with older children.

Is there childcare or a drop-off programme?

No. Our hub is designed for families to experience everything together.

However, if parents need time to work, we're happy to recommend trusted local babysitting services.

Working & Learning

Can I work remotely?

Yes. Many parents work while staying at the hub.

Our relaxed schedule leaves most mornings free, making it easier to balance work and family life. Each apartment in the condominium comes with a high speed internet.

Can we homeschool or worldschool while we're there?

Absolutely. Many families continue homeschooling throughout their stay.

The hub complements your family's learning rather than replacing it.

Practical Information

Is Portugal safe for families?

The Algarve is widely regarded as one of Europe's safest regions for families.

Our main accommodation is located within a secure, gated community with 24-hour security, giving children the freedom to play and explore in a safe environment.

Can solo parents join?

Absolutely. Many solo mums join our hubs and often tell us they quickly feel supported by the community.

What if we don't know anyone?

Almost nobody does.

One of the most wonderful parts of the hub is how quickly strangers become friends. Within a few days, children are playing together and parents are sharing meals, adventures and everyday life.

Why do so many families return?

Because the hub becomes so much more than a holiday.

Parents and children form genuine friendships, find a community that understands their lifestyle, and families experience a slower, more connected way of living. Many leave feeling they've found a second home—and can't wait to come back the following season.

What is the area like?

Our main accommodation is located in Herdade dos Salgados, one of the Algarve's most peaceful and sought-after seaside communities. It's a safe, family-friendly area where everything you need is close by, making it easy to settle in and enjoy a slower pace of life.

Within walking distance you'll find:

  • Beautiful sandy beaches – 5–10 minutes

  • Local supermarket – 2–5 minutes

  • 18-hole golf course – 10 minutes

  • Cafés and restaurants – 10-15 minutes

  • Salgados Nature Reserve and birdwatching trail – 10 minutes

  • 5-star hotels with restaurants, bars and spa facilities

  • Wellness Hub - within our complex

For anything else, you're only a short drive away from larger towns and amenities:

  • Albufeira – approximately 12 minutes

  • Armação de Pêra – approximately 10 minutes

  • Shopping centre and major supermarkets – approximately 12 minutes

Why We Ask for a Contribution?

Our Algarve Hub is much more than a collection of activities—it's a welcoming community where families connect, children build lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories are made together.

Creating that experience takes months of planning, organization and ongoing support before the season even begins, and throughout the entire hub.

Your contribution helps make all of this possible, including:

  • Planning and organizing optional daily meetups and community events

  • Researching and coordinating the best family-friendly experiences across the Algarve

  • Supporting families before and throughout their stay

  • Creating opportunities for meaningful connection between families

  • Building a welcoming, safe and unforgettable experience for everyone who joins

More than anything, your contribution helps us create something that's becoming increasingly rare—a place where children can simply be children, parents find genuine connection, and families experience a slower, richer way of living together.

If you choose to join us, thank you. Your support doesn't just help organize a hub—it helps build a community that many families return to year after year. We can't wait to welcome you.

What is included and what do I arrange on my own?

What Is Included?

Your community contribution covers your immediate family, including parents (or guardians) and all of your children.

Bringing Grandparents, Friends or Other Family Members?

Grandparents, adult friends, aunts, uncles and other adult guests are very welcome to join you.

If they are travelling with their own children, they will simply need to register separately and make a community contribution for their family.

Your Hub Contribution Includes

  • Access to our welcoming international community

  • Access to our private chat group before and during your stay.

  • Ongoing support and guidance throughout your time at the hub.

  • Optional daily meetups throughout your stay.

  • A thoughtfully planned programme featuring some of the Algarve's best family-friendly experiences.

  • A dedicated host with local knowledge to help families connect and make the most of their time in Portugal.

What You'll Arrange Separately

Each family is responsible for arranging and paying for:

  • Accommodation

  • Flights, travel and visa if applicable

  • Food and everyday living expenses

  • Transport

  • Entry fees and optional paid activities, such as boat trips, surfing lessons, horse riding, ziplining and other experiences you choose to join.

Is the contribution refundable?
Contributions to the Hub are non-refundable. However, if you cancel you may transfer your donation to any future Hub that we host.

Will I need a car?

It is absolutely possible to enjoy this hub without a car, but for the best experience we do recommend hiring one.

Having a car gives your family the freedom to explore the beautiful Algarve at your own pace and makes it easier to join some of the meetups and adventures throughout the season. If you're staying for several weeks or longer, most families find that having a car is well worth it.

If you choose not to rent a car, don't worry. Uber and Bolt are reliable, widely available and very affordable throughout the Algarve. We also have a dedicated Car Share group where families can offer or request lifts to activities, making it easy to explore together and helping everyone feel included.

Whether you have your own car or not, you'll have plenty of opportunities to be part of the community.

What is the closest airport?

Faro - 40min. drive.

Lisbon - 2,5 hours drive

What will the spoken language be?
The common language for all families will be English.
